What makes a safety match different than a strike anywhere match? The name says it, with a safety match, you can only ignite with the strike pad. This is a spcially prepared surface, that will only ignite these matches. Whereas strike anywhere matches contain red phosphorus as well as an oxidising agent and sulphur. This allows those types of matches to ignite on any surface when fricition is created.
